Function
As a Senior Software Engineer .NET, you will be playing a key role in developing a renewed data-, software- and information architecture.
As a Senior Software Engineer .NET, you will take the lead in modernising the software architecture and the development process, as well as taking charge of and coaching 5 fellow developers, all in various disciplines in this process. You will be responsible for the entire process of designing, building, testing, documenting and managing the software. Of course you will make use of modern technologies, insights and ways of working in the field of software development.
You’ll be working, for example, on Metabase (web services API for approaching various data sources generically), Samba (UI for Metabase) and an IDE for Gempack models. You will get to work with data virtualisation, parsing and much, much more. You will also get the opportunity to take part in national and international research projects, either through your own initiative or via your internal network. Subject areas might be software development, information analysis, data modelling or consultancy.
The Lei, The Hague, The Netherlands
As a Senior Software Engineer .NET, you will be working at the Datalab of the LEI in The Hague, a part of the Wageningen University & Research Centre. The unique data, models, and knowledge of this independent and internationally respected socioeconomic research institute assist clients in their policy- and decision-making, contributing ultimately to a more sustainable world. The LEI has 266 employees (66 of whom are PhD candidates) spread across locations in LEI in The Hague, Wageningen and Lelystad.
The Datalab (11 employees) supports the researchers of the LEI and its national and international research partners with data, models and software developed in-house – in fields ranging from the use of antibiotics in animal husbandry enterprises to international trade in agricultural products. Making use of its own data or of that of statistical and administrative agencies at home and abroad.
The LEI adds value by combining this data with analytical tools and its expert knowledge of how policies are created.
Requirements
The Senior Software Engineer .NET we’re looking for has completed at least a relevant technical university-level degree course and has 5 years experience as a developer, preferably in a data- and knowledge-intensive organisation. You’re able to supervise the entire Software Development Lifecycle end-to-end and have demonstrable experience with layered architectures and design patterns. Affinity with BI and data management is certainly to your advantage in this data-driven organisation.
You’re a skilled communicator, with the ability to convince people who hold strong opinions of their own. Your written and spoken English is excellent. Knowing and understanding the Dutch language would be handy too.
Technical skills
• Microsoft platform (C#, ASP.NET, SQL Server)
• XML, HTML(5), CSS, JavaScript, jQuery and Json
• ORM, in particular the Microsoft Entity Framework 6.
• WCF / Web API
Offer

The gross salary, depending on your experience, lies between €3,479 and €5,247 per month on a full-time basis (36 hours), depending on your experience and level of education.
The LEI offers 23 holiday days and is flexible in terms of taking up compensatory leave (based on a 40-hour work week, these can add up to an extra 25 days). In addition to the regular 8% holiday pay, the LEI also offers a fixed end-of-year bonus of 3%. There are also generous leave regulations and an above-average employer’s contribution to the pension scheme.
